The school year is at full speed with smartphones and tablets capturing educators, students and families around the world.According to CommonSense Media, children’s access to mobile media devices is dramatically higher than it was 2 years ago. Among families with children age 8 and under, there has been a five-fold increase in ownership of tablet devices such as iPads, from 8% of all families in 2011 to 40% in 2013. The percentage of children with access to some type of “smart” mobile device at home (smartphone or tablet) has jumped from half (52%) to three-quarters (75%) of all children in just two years.
As a result, the educational apps market is poised for unprecedented growth.
A study by research firm Ambient Insight predicts that game-based learning, will grow from $1.5 billion in 2012 to $2.3 billion in 2017 with much of the growth coming from apps that target the mobile market.
