Ross writes ‘The Bottom Line’ column for the San Francisco Chronicle. The 5-day-a-week column focuses on business in the Bay Area, including its place in the international economy. Before taking on a business beat, Ross was the Chronicle’s Executive Foreign & National Editor, overseeing the paper’s coverage of the Iraq and Afghan wars, among other major international stories. He has reported and written from China, India, Vietnam and Cambodia, Western and Eastern Europe and Central America. Previously, he was co-founder of the award-winning web site Salon.com and a news director ar KQED-TV.

Andres Wydler, CEO RealGreen Power, Inc; Clean Tech Entrepreneurship, Stanford University
Andres is a cleantech executive and entrepreneur. He currently serves as CEO of wastewater purification and renewable energy company RealGreen Power and advises cleantech start-ups on financing and growth strategies. Previously, Andres co-founded smart grid company BPL Global (www.bplglobal.net) that is widely recognized as a clean tech leader. He grew the company through organic growth and M&A managing all commercial aspects worldwide. Prior, he established the US operations of a European consulting firm focused on the international expansion of high tech companies. He also initiated an angel group that invests in technology opportunities with cross-border strategies (www.constellation.ch). He was instrumental in the success of various start-ups and intrapreneurial ventures at Macromedia and sgi. Andres earned an MBA from Stanford and a law degree from the University of Zurich. He developed and teaches a course on CleanTech Entrepreneurship at Stanford to encourage professionals in Silicon Valley to pursue their own cleantech ventures.
James Caldwell, President, E3 Regenesis Solutions, Inc
James T. Caldwell, Ph.D., a Director of UCGEC, Chair of its Green Building Task Force, and Editor of the Conference Programs, is bilingual in Chinese and English. He is President of E3 Regenesis Solutions, Inc., where he specializes in building green energy alliances and energy systems integration for buildings and cities. He was Senior Marketing Representative for Tian Ma, at International Geosystems (H.K) Ltd. and a Tour Director in China for Lindblad Travel. He founded Pacific Rim Connections, Inc. (a multilingual prepress services company), He was the first Editor of the Unicode Standard (ISO10646), served on the Unicode Technical Committee and later served as VP for Multilingual Computing at DAE Interactive Marketing (Ion Global, US). He worked in China for three years and in Hong Kong (one year) during the 1980s. He often travels to China on business and worked in Beijing again in 2007-8. He has taught university courses on the Politics of Energy and the Environment, Comparative Politics and World History at SUNY Binghamton and Iona College, NY. He was post-doctoral Fellow at the U.C. Berkeley Institute of East Asian Studies and Assistant Director of the Center for East Asian Studies at Stanford University.
Jon Bonanno, CIO of Sustainable Power Assets (SPA), Chairman of the Board of Directors and Co-Founder of Principle Power, Chairman & Member of Keiretsu Forum’s Cleantech Investment Committee
Mr. Bonanno began Sustainable Power Assets (SPA) in 2010 to focus on sourcing, advising, building, owning, selling and operating renewable energy assets. Primarily focused on solar, SPA works with development partners in the US and Europe to bring smart capital to bear on the deployment of qualified projects.
Prior to SPA, Jon Bonanno co-founded Principle Power for the purpose of commercializing WindFloat, a semi-submersible floating foundation for utility-scale offshore wind. The shared vision of Principle Power is that WindFloat will enable the growth multiple gigawatts of deep-water wind power plants and make a significant difference in offsetting fossil fuel usage. He is currently serving as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Principle Power. (click here for presentation).
Steve Bengston, Director of the Emerging Company Services (ECS) group at PricewaterhouseCoopers. ECS acts as “mentor capitalists” for young, high potential companies
Before joining PwC, Steve had 20 years of experience in a variety of marketing, business development and general management roles at several high tech companies in the Bay Area. Most recently, he was Pres/CEO of ynot.com, a leading international emarketing and greeting card company.
Steve has a BA in Economics and MBA from Stanford University. He works closely or sits on the Advisory Board at Churchill Club, SVASE, Life Science Angels, Bay Bio, and the Stanford/MIT Venture Lab, has taught classes on start ups at UC Berkeley, San Jose State, Santa Clara Law School, Hastings Law School, and Stanford, and is active in a variety of other organizations in the Bay Area targeting entrepreneurs and investors. Ms. Burks practice focuses on the representation of established and emerging companies in the areas of corporate, securities, finance, mergers, acquisitions and strategic alliances, intellectual property protection and general corporate representation.
