A few years before its deepest recession in decades, Brazil was attracting a number of foreign investors and entrepreneurs keen to explore opportunities in the fifth largest tech market in the world.
Among them, our guest speaker California-born Brian Requarth, CEO & Co-Founder of VivaReal, Brazil’s leading online real estate marketplace.
While living in Bogota, Colombia, Brian met co-founder Thomas Floracks, a German who was backpacking around Latin America. Together with an old Brazilian friend, Diego Simon, they launched VivaReal in 2009 and since then have raised $74m USD from international investors that have invested in companies like Facebook, Twitter, Airbnb, Alibaba and Uber.
Brian sold his apartment and the company bootstrapped for the first years until bringing on outside investors.
Today VivaReal has 450+ team members spread out across Brazil and is a leader in its segment receiving over 8 million visits per month through its website and mobile apps.
On July 20, Brian will talk about his strategy scaling a tech company in Brazil, the real estate market in a recession, and his journey as an American entrepreneur in a country notoriously difficult for foreigners to break into.
