BayBrazil & Evernote present:
Brazil in 2015
When: Jan 21st, 2015, 6pm-9pm
Location: Evernote headquarters, 305 Walnut Street, Redwood City CA
Brazil is entering a challenging year. The real has been hit hard by falling commodity prices and the corruption scandal at state oil giant Petrobras is shaking up political parties, including the Worker’s Party of recent reelected President Rousseff. Moreover, the country is facing the worst drought conditions in decades and inflation rate of about 6.4% in 2014 has impacted consumer and business confidence. Economists forecast that Brazil will grow at its slowest pace since 2009.
In contrast, the IT market is booming.
An IDC study shows that the IT services industry grew by 8.7% in the 12-month period between July 2013 and June 2014. Adoption of mobile devices has skyrocketed and Brazil has the second-highest smartphone penetration in Latin America, with an increasing social media-addicted population. With over 70 million internet users, the country has the second largest active users of Facebook and Twitter. Out of the top 200 Brazilian companies, 161 advertise on Twitter. On Facebook trending topics worldwide, the number 3 spot is the presidential election in Brazil. it was the most talked-about election in 2014, surpassing the congressional midterms in the U.S.
On January 21st our guest speakers will reveal their expectations for Brazil in 2015 & discuss how tech companies plan to navigate the business climate in the country.
